The southwestern neighbourhoods of San Francisco sit closest to the Lake Course and hold a limited number of genuinely large private homes. Where a group wants to be minutes from the gate, that is the pool, and it is small enough to be worth committing to early.
The Peninsula opens the brief up considerably. Burlingame, Hillsborough, San Mateo and Atherton offer substantial residences with grounds and parking, typically twenty to forty minutes from the club and close to San Francisco International, which suits delegations flying in and out through the week.
Central San Francisco and Marin work well for groups who want the city in the evenings. The practical constraint is parking and morning traffic rather than distance, so we plan accommodation and transport as one decision.
