Bedrooms

  • Wash and replace all agreed bed linen.
  • Vacuum or mop floors, including under visible furniture.
  • Dust bedside tables, lamps and headboards.
  • Empty bins.
  • Clear usable wardrobe or drawer space.
  • Check mirrors and windows for obvious marks.

Bathrooms

  • Descale and clean showers, baths and taps.
  • Disinfect toilets, sinks and high-touch surfaces.
  • Clean mirrors.
  • Remove hair from drains.
  • Provide fresh towels.
  • Restock toilet paper and hand soap.
  • Check ventilation and hot water.

Kitchen

  • Clean worktops, sink and splashbacks.
  • Empty and wipe the fridge; leave clear guest space.
  • Clean oven and hob if needed.
  • Empty bins and recycling.
  • Check cups, glasses, plates and cutlery are clean.
  • Wipe appliance handles and high-touch surfaces.

Living and dining areas

  • Vacuum upholstery and floors.
  • Dust visible surfaces.
  • Clean the dining table and chairs.
  • Remove fragile personal clutter.
  • Check there is enough seating for the advertised group.

Hallways and entrances

Clean floors, door glass, handles and switches. The entrance is the first part of the house guests see, so remove shoes, coats and private clutter that make the property feel occupied rather than handed over.

Exterior and parking

Clear obvious rubbish, check outdoor furniture and make the parking area understandable. If guests have a designated entrance or parking space, make sure it is accessible.

High-touch points

Before finishing, wipe door handles, light switches, remotes, stair rails and frequently used cupboard handles.

Do not hide maintenance behind cleaning

A spotless shower that does not drain properly is still a problem. Use the cleaning pass to identify leaking taps, broken bulbs, loose handles, unreliable locks and appliances that need attention.

Final inspection

Walk the house in daylight, then check the important rooms again under artificial light. Make the beds, stage clean towels and take dated condition photographs before guests arrive.

What is “guest-ready”?

The home does not need to look like a hotel. It should be clean enough that a paying guest can use every agreed room immediately without encountering leftover food, personal bathroom items, dirty linen or uncertainty about what has been prepared for them.
